Four Laning of Kiratpur – Ner Chowk section of NH-21 from KM 0.0 To KM 12.750, Km. 158.500 to Km. 167.150 & Km. 172.950 to Km. 182.215 in the States of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh
The Project of four laning of Kiratpur – Ner Chowk section on NH 21 in Punjab & Himachal Pradesh, under NHDP Phase III is one of the most challenging projects for execution, considering difficult terrain conditions. The total length of the project is about 82.5 kms. This project reduces the length of journey by 37km. Major length of project is along new alignment. The project involves construction of 18 major bridges, 26 of minor bridges, five tunnels (0.4 to 1.75 km long) having a total length of 5.07km, 2 toll plazas, 1 grade separator, 67.3km of road work and lot of (different types of) slope protection measures and other related infrastructure.
The entire length of project is split into three parts. Said part of the project involves construction of a major bridge @ ch.0+450 & 159+000 and VUP @ ch.12+715. The project site falls under Seismic Zone 5. Major bridge across a major canal @ ch. 0+450 have a single carriageway of 72m long through type steel truss resting on RCC portal pier through Pot-PTFE bearings. The structure is resting on bored cast-in-situ piles. Major bridge @ Ch. 159+000 has two independent carriageways of 3x25m continuous span with precast RCC girders and cast-in-situ RCC deck slab resting on substructure through pot-PTFE bearings. The bridge lies on a sharp horizontal curve. The VUP have 2×22.5m simply supported spans with deck slab continuity. Deck comprises precast PSC girders with cast-in-situ RCC deck slab resting on pot-PTFE bearings. Types of superstructures (viz. precast post tensioned girders with cast-in-situ deck slab, cast-in-situ RCC beam & slab, through steel truss, etc.) are proposed for depending on site constraint, constructability, transportability, speed of construction, economics etc.
