FOUR LANING OF JAMMU-AKHNOOR SECTION OF NH-144A FROM CANAL HEAD TO GANESH VIHAR IN UT OF J&K (PKG-II)

The project involves construction of road and bridges along 5.2 Km of project corridor, which comprises of 3.75 km long grade separator, 4 Minor bridges and few CD structures.

The structural scheme envisaged for the long, elevated corridor is three span continuous module with superstructure monolithically connected to the intermediate piers is proposed. The proposal is unique, considering the traffic conditions, fast track nature of the project and also yields a durable structure with lesser maintenance effort and cost. 21.5m wide deck is supported over single pier. The length of span is 30m for straight modules and 27/28m for modules lying over sharp horizontal curvature. The superstructure is provided with six nos. precast, pre-tensioned, I-Girder with part precast, part cast-in-situ RCC deck slab. The pier cap is partly precast, post tensioned, inverted T-shaped. At expansion joint piers, bearing are resting over bottom flange of inverted T-shaped PSC pier cap. The piers are 3.5m wide and 1.0m thick. The structure is resting on open foundation resting on sand-boulder mix alluvium.

With the help of high capacity cranes, precast part of the pier cap (cast on ground very near to the respective pier), is lifted & erected on the cribs at its intended location. After both side segments of a pier cap are placed in position (resting over cribs), central portion of pier cap is cast and stressed. The girders (cast in the casting yard) are transported to the site in low bedded trailer and erected with the help of cranes. Once an entire module is ready to receive deck slab, end diaphragms and intermediate cross girders are cast and panels of part precast deck slab are placed at their intended position. Once all the precast panels of a span are placed in position, in-situ portion of deck slab is cast. This avoids fixing and removal of shuttering and speeds up the completion of a span.
