NAGPUR MUMBAI SUPER COMMUNICATION EXPRESSWAY PACKAGE – V

This 6-lane, divided carriageway project of Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Expressway is fully access controlled, having a total length of 700km in Maharashtra. This is longest Green Field Expressway.

This package passes through hilly terrain and involves construction of 10 Viaducts, 1 ROB, 2 Major Bridges, 7 Minor Bridges, 11 VUPs, 4 VOPs, 4 POPs, 2 WOPs & 8 PUPs. Total deck width of superstructure is 17.5m and skew angle varies from 12 degree to 52 degree. Span length for major structures (i.e. Viaducts and Major Bridges) is kept as 25m & 30m. Due to difficult approach to bridge site, PSC post tensioned precast girder with cast-in-situ RCC deck slab type superstructure is proposed. The project comprises of 1300 Nos. (approx.) precast girders. The Viaducts consist of 3 span continuous modules made continuous through deck slab. The spans are resting over elastomeric bearing. The lateral forces are transferred to the substructure through shear rating of the elastomer. Superstructure is supported over RCC Pier Cap & solid circular pier resting on open foundation founded under rock. Clear height of pier varies from 6m to 27m and accordingly RCC circular piers are provided with diameter varying from 2.2m to 3m. For casting of pier cap of tall piers (i.e. clear height >16m), bracket type staging supported directly with pier is adopted.

All minor structures such as VUPs, MNBs, PUPs consist of RCC single cell/multi box type & portal frame type structure. For faster construction, part pre-cast, part in-situ deck slab is adopted for box type structures. This avoided time and material required for fixing of staging and shuttering for casting of deck slab. Both precast and in-situ portion of deck slab is made composite through shear interface reinforcement.

The ROB part comprises of main span of 37.2m in steel concrete composite girders with approach spans of 19.0m length having RCC girder-slab superstructure supported on POT-PTFE bearings resting on RCC Pier Cap & Pier

Structures of entire corridor are supported on open foundation founded on rock. The project falls in seismic zone II.
