Purvanchal Expressway (Package-I) in the State of Uttar Pradesh
This 340 km long, 6-lane wide, access-controlled expressway connects Eastern part of UP with sate Capital of Lucknow and capital city of Delhi. The state government funded project will serve as a mile stone for development of Eastern part of the state.
The project involves construction of two ROBs having 52 & 58m long steel bow string girders @ ch. 1+070 & ch. 31+064, respectively. Both ROBs have a side span of 10.5m on either side of main span. The superstructure is resting on portal piers through spherical bearings. The overall deck width of 21.25m comprises a four lane carriageway of 16.65m and 1.5m wide footpath on either side.
Total rise of the bow string is 10m. with 7 & 9 hangers, respectively. Maximum depth of plate girder used as cross girder (spaced at 1.8 to 2.0m c/c) is 1.325m, with 215 mm thick in-situ RCC deck slab. The design of non-standard Bow String girder was approved by RDSO. The design was carried out by Working Stress Design Methodology and also, checked as per Limit State Method. The bridge is designed for congestion factor and SV loading of IRC:6. After assembly of pieces of bow string over staging adjacent to Railway Tracks, the whole Bow-String-Girder was towed by hydraulic jacks. After positioning of permanent bearings, cast-in-situ deck slab concreting was completed. The entire bow string girder is connected by welded joints. 10.5m long side spans are provided as in-situ solid RCC slab cast on staging.
The substructure comprises of four bay RCC portal. End columns are provided under bearings of bow string. The substructure is supported on RCC, 1.2m dia, bored cast-in-situ piles. Non-earth retaining abutments are also resting on pile foundation. Earth pressure is resisted by cross RS wall.
The project was completed in almost 24 months of time.
